Gambling Computers Confiscated from Internet Café
6 Jul 2006
In East Malaysia, police confiscated eight computers claimed to be used for gambling purposes from an Internet café at Beverly Hills, Phase II on Saturday. DSP Mohd Azhar Hamin, District Police Chief, explained that they had found the operation based on a tip-off, a team led by Chief Inspector Nixon Joshua Ali, District Crime Officer. He and his team raided the premises around 3 P.M. Once the computers were seized, Ali warned the public of supporting and patronizing illegal gambling.
'We will monitor the situation, continue to make raids and arrest those involved in such activities,' he continued. In addition to seizing the computers and RM 150 in cash, a few people were detained as well. 'We also detained its two woman caretakers and four male patrons from the outlet,' he said. This is just another occurrence of police discovery regarding illegal gambling operations around the world. It seems with the growth in popularity of gambling and online casino sites, illegal gambling is becoming a bigger issue for governments all over the globe.
Whether or not gambling will ever be legal in countries like Malaysia and even the United States is unknown. However, the fact that gambling is an illegal activity, both on land and online, does not seem to stop the people of these nations to try their luck at the various gambling spots and online casinos on the Internet. These governments might have to eventually face the inevitability of casino gambling as a legal and recognized pastime. Only time will tell.
