Gambling - We Do it All the Time
29 Jun 2006
Why are people so against the concept of gambling? If done in moderation, as with everything in life, there is nothing wrong with gambling as a leisure activity. Just like with eating fattening foods, spending money on shopping and having a glass of win, there are plenty of things that if done in excess will be to your determent. Gambling is one of these - in moderation it can be an amazing and exhilarating experience but if done in excess, it is not advised.
We are involved in gambling all the time, every day without even being aware of it. Should I take this route to work and risk being late, but at least I get good parking options, or should I take this route to work and be assured of getting there on time? Do I call my great-aunt and invite her for dinner, at the risk that she might accept? Should I save some money and do all my shopping here, or should I try and find the cereal cheaper at another store? All of the above scenarios involve weighing up one kind of risk factor with another and gambling the odds. This type of gambling is not for hard cash, but the same concept exists.
Everyone loves to take risks, and the adrenalin rush that one feels when gambling - online and at land casinos - is like no other. If we manage to gamble so well in our daily lives, then adding a bit of monetary value to this skill should eventually pay off. Are you up for the gamble?
